A great work-life balance

With stunning natural scenery, sweeping sandy beaches and a host of sport and leisure opportunities, the Islands of Guernsey are the perfect place to balance work and play.

Having access to all this is only a benefit if you have time to enjoy it, though, and this is one of the biggest reasons why social workers from the UK, Australia, New Zealand and India have chosen to move here. Our caseloads are low, and with far less commuting, you have more time to do the things you love.

Support with relocation

Moving to a completely new location is a big decision. We understand this, which is why we support you as much as we can. If you’re moving from outside the Islands of Guernsey to work for 12 months or more, and are not a returning resident, you will receive £5,000 towards your relocation costs (£6,600 if relocating to Alderney).

If you need to store furniture in the Islands of Guernsey, you can claim up to £50 per week for a maximum of six months.

You will also, on deployment, receive financial assistance towards the cost of on island accommodation. This may be through Rent Allowance, Additional Rent Allowance or a House Purchase Grant.

Settling into island life

We’re open about the cost of living in Guernsey, which is more than in the UK. However, the cost is usually offset by higher average incomes. Living on an island also means you never have far to travel, so there are very little commuting costs, and many activities are completely free – whether that’s swimming in the sea, running along the cliff paths or cycling along the coast.

One thing to keep in mind is that due to the limited land available, house prices are comparable with the London Market. That said, Guernsey has a wide variety of homes to rent or buy, from modern apartments to country cottages, and so there are plenty of options.
